Bijan Robinson

Was drafting a RB at 8th pick worth it for the Atlanta Falcons?

The Atlanta Falcons draft the best available talent on the board by using the 8th pick in the 2023 NFL draft to select Bijan Robinson RB out of the University of Texas. He will be the front runner for Offense Rookie Of The Year candidate with Arthur Smith as his coach in this Falcons run heavy offensive scheme.

This is not cap (as the young kids say these days) to say Bijan might win offensive rookie of the year. That is how talented the kid is, but Jalen Carter, Christian Gonzalez, or Peter Skoronski would have been better picks since we already have a 1100 yard RB we drafted out of the 5th round last season in Tyler Algiers!  A RB in Tyler Allgiers that made all rookie first team and was the brightest part of our season this past year!  Yes Bijan is a special talent, but we needed to draft for filling needs more than drafting the best available talent on the board.  The problem is terry has a problem with do that very thing in the past drafts or is in Arthur Smith call?  Let’s look at Terry first round picks since being the Falcons GM.  So terry first round picks are as followed:

Kyle Pitts at 4 when Micah parsons or Justin fields fell in your lap.  Enough said that was a huge reach for a TE in a top four pick that hasn’t impacted the Falcons enough to justify drafting him that high!

Drake London at 8 when you didn’t have a good qb on the roster and we had 19 sacks total for a team that season.

And now a rb at 8 in bijan Robinson after we had a grand total of 21 sacks is just crazy too me.  Also our lg and center are a point of weakness on our offensive line.

Again Bijan most likely will win rookie of the year. Will it improve our running game? Yes, but could we have drafted a need and got better overall? Yes. 🤷🏽‍♂️  ultimately this smells like a Arthur smith trying to get a Derrick Henry RB imo. The top 3 running backs last season in the nfl did not make the playoffs. Nick Chubb, Derrick Henry, and Jonathan Taylor. Great to watch run the ball, but ultimately this is a passing league and their generational talent at running the ball didn’t equate to wins on the field and team success.

Oh well, let’s go to the potential offensive to the rookie of the year.  Also Good luck to Kyle pitts this season blocking even more for a generational talented RB in Bijan. 🤷🏽‍♂️  Let’s see what else the Falcons have cooking in the remainder of the draft before I give it a grade!  🤷🏽‍♂️  Please leave a comment below if you like the pick or if you think the falcons should have drafted out of need to fill holes in this roster.

I couldn’t have agreed more my guy. Makes no sense for 3 years in a row they have gone offense and clearly need defense in the worst way!!!

UNeducated Sports Talk

This is more of a classic Arthur Blank error than anything. He is always going for the flashy offensive player over solid line play.

He has always gravitated towards the flashy star who immediately fills seats over low key fundamental improvement.

Charles R. Washington

I don’t think he will win OROY! Does he sit Tyler Allgeier that had 1,035 yds last year??? Falcons should’ve addressed the trenches I.e., Jalen Carter to pair with Grady Jarrett or Another OL to build a wall for young QB. Mystery choice in my book, they drafted the same size back 5’11 215 (Bijan) Vs 5’11 220 (Allgeier)
