Armchair Observations of the Atlanta Hawks Head Coach:
When you think of Nate McMillan “the supersonic player” you immediately think of a hard nose defender that could hit a corner three. Nate was a PLAYER most teams would love to be apart of their squad to build a championship team! Mind you he never won a championship and was always that good defensive journeyman type of player. Now let’s transition your view of Nate “The Coach” and I have to ask you guys when you think of Nate McMillan the Head coach what do you think of as a Hawks Fan? You think of a coach that is 77th all time in NBA regular season winning % and 125 all time in NBA playoff game winning %.
The 18 years coach Nate has been coaching in the NBA he is THE model of longevity and mediocrity imo. Those two words describes coach Nate McMillan career the best as a NBA head coach. His teams barely make the playoffs and are quickly escorted out of the post season. The only time he has made it out of the first round was when Trae Young carried him to the ECF two years ago! (Which seems like an eternity ago right now!)
In last night game Atlanta Hawks Vs the Charlotte hornets Coach Nate went into the 4th qtr with 4 time outs in his pocket! The Hornets went on several 10-0 runs last night, but our coach didn’t want to use one of those time outs to stop those runs? A defensive coach in Nate McMillan that has seen Dejounte Murray regress as a defensive player under coach Nate watch. A player in Dejounte Murray who was 2nd team all NBA defense team has regressed under coach Nate. This Hawks team lacks focus and attention to detail. The message is stale and being lost on our players. No one in that locker room believes in the coach. No one in the locker room believes coach will put them in winning positions.
Coach Nate will not be fired and shouldn’t be fire during the season and I understand that, but if we have another mediocre full regular season it will be a reflection of the mediocre coaching staff imo. A head coach that is 77th all time in regular season win% and 125 in playoff win % and that’s counting the magical run the hawks had two years ago! We are a mid team because we have a mid coach. End of the debate.
