As per bleacher report the Falcons head coaching job is still WIDE OPEN even though Bill Belichick and Jim Harbaugh have second interviews. Speaking of Bill, Atlanta Falcons owner Arthur Blank flew Bill Belichick to Atlanta on Thursday night for dinner in person, but on Friday the meeting was virtual! What kind of sense does that make as an organization to have flown someone to your city and have dinner with them but have the 2nd interview via virtual conference?!?!?!? No wonder they released Jim Harbaugh and several other candidates will be receiving a in person interview!
This sounds like something went wrong during the dinner and bill did the virtual interview out of obligation since he was here, but did not feel like he needed to be face to face with Arthur Blank or Rich McKay and Terry Fontenot. This screams “the Falcons messed up at dinner”. Mind you I want Harbaugh over Bill anyways, but if this report is true by bleacher report then it kinda gives us a glimpse into how dysfunctional our organization is tbh. Maybe Bill was assuming he was coming to sign the contract and the falcons told him they still had other candidates to interview. This type of situation could be Bill feeling like if I’m not here to finalize the deal then why am I here type of situation?!?!?
Either way the coach search continues and as a Falcons fan I would hate to lose out on both high profile coaches with our new hiring process. While I would prefer Jim Harbaugh I truly believe the only reason he is taking an in person interview with the Falcons is to boost his negotiation with the chargers by adding the Falcons to a list of serious candidates the chargers will have to outbid for Jim to be the coach. That’s my gut feeling while I think Bill wants to be in Atlanta. Jim had his 2nd interview with the Falcons and is flying to LA to meet with the Chargers and he is taking his wife with him, so that feels like he is going to sign the deal.
It seems like the Atlanta Falcons might fumble getting either of the best candidates on the market due to the dysfunctional front office and ultimately this failure should be laid at Arthur Blank feet! He prides himself as the guy who makes the big hires in this team but in actuality you are being manipulated by a career GM in Rich McKay that is still living off his success from Tampa Bay when most nfl people feel that coach Tony Dungy had more to do with that championship than Rich McKay ever did! In that presser after firing Arthur Smith this is what Arthur Blank said
“he would not say there was something wrong with the pickers more so unfortunately what Arthur smith did on the Titans didn’t translate to the Falcons!”
Hey guess what Mr Blank. That means the person doing the picking is picking the wrong people to do the job. It also means you might need to restructure your pyramid of power in the Falcons organization! Maybe, just maybe hire a BETTER football guy as your right hand man. Or are we doomed because our owner would move out ifSo what do you guys think? Is it due diligence or incompetence by this Falcons owner and front office if we fail to sign Bill or Jim? You erroneously said that Harbaugh has already had his second interview with Atlanta before meeting with the chargers. he has only met with them once last week and is scheduled to meet again on Wednesday if he doesn’t sign with the chargers before that.
