This was a horrible loss by our Atlanta Falcons at the hands of a 2-5 (now 3-5) Tennessee Titans team! The Falcons have reached the midway point of the season with a record of 4-4 in 1st place of the NFC south, so we still control our path to the playoffs! With that said we have to break this game down!
In the first half Ridder fumbled the ball and the offense only scored 3 points in the first half while he was the QB. We watch every game and every second and the team had no energy or offensive flow when ridder was in the game. The Titans was stacking the box to stop the run and playing bump and run on the wr’s forcing Ridder to throw in tight windows and the Falcons offense was none existent tbh. Our lone score came off a turnover made by the defense on a fumble by the Titans, so throughout the entire first half of the game Ridder didn’t have one scoring drive to put us in a position to score. I know people are going to point to the offensive line and how poor they played in the first half. My how a QB change help the Offensive line and the entire offense as a whole!
After halftime coach went to Taylor Heinicke and he lead this team to 20 points against the same defense that had totally shut down our offense in the first half with Desmond Ridder as the QB. What was the difference between the first half and the second half of the game? Quarterback play was the difference tbh. Ridder stats in a half was 8/12 for 71 yards! He was sacked 5 times and those happen because he either held the ball too long or he didn’t throw the ball away. Taylor played behind the same offensive line and only gave up one sack! Why is that? Because he can read defenses better than the 2nd year QB and get the ball out of his hands quicker for a completed pass or throw it out of bounds to avoid the sack and live to another play. 🤷🏿 Taylor was 12/22 for 175 yards 1 TD and sacked once behind the same offensive line that Ridder was sacked 5 times in the first half. The Falcons lost the game because our young QB isn’t ready to start and be consistent enough to win in the NFL unfortunately and our back up came in the game in the second half and looked infinitely better.
Ultimately this is on Coach Arthur Smith for going with someone that was unproven and coach couldn’t coach Ridder up to be more consistent. The fact that there was no real QB competition in the preseason between Desmond and Taylor was strange, but we as a fanbase assumed Ridder must have dazzled our coach and the coaching staff enough in off season workouts to be given the job without competing for the job. Yes we have seen sparks out of ridder for sure this season, but we need consistency to be a winning team in the NFL.
The end result of the game is that the falcons lost, but ridder had zero chance against the titans defense and yet our back up QB almost brought us a win. 👀 TY The real question is do the Atlanta Falcons move forward with Ridder as the starting quarterback or will Taylor be given the keys to the car?
